This workshop will enhance knowledge and develop skills to allow for the safe, secure, and appropriate handling of agents that are potentially life-threatening, such as Ebola virus at all levels in the laboratory response system. Participants will learn to assess, develop and implement measures to improve laboratory and bio-safety practices for dealing with current and emerging infectious diseases.

The North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health (NCSLPH) is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science P.A.C.E® Program.  Participants who successfully complete this program will be awarded 8 contact hours.

Registration and payment are due no later than August 16.  If it is necessary to cancel or send a substitute to participate in the workshop, please notify the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health at 919-807-8765 as soon as possible.  If we do not receive notification of cancellation by August 14, your facility will be billed for the cost of the workshop or fees will not be reimbursed for cancellations after the deadline.

 

 



 

BT Preparedness Training for Clinical Laboratories Workshop

This intermediate-level program will focus on practical methods clinical laboratorians can use to recognize agents of bioterrorism.  Laboratory presentations and demonstrations will instruct the participants to recognize cultures, staining and biochemical characteristics of these agents.  The safety implications of handling suspected organisms in clinical isolates and cultures and toxins will be emphasized.  Procedures for referring suspect cases will be explained.

Continuing education contact hours will be awarded to all participants who successfully complete this program. The North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health (NCSLPH) is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science P.A.C.E® Program.  Participants who successfully complete this program will be awarded 6.5 contact hours.

Seating is limited.  Registration includes workshop materials, morning and afternoon refreshments, lunch and speaker handouts. Please adhere to relevant workshop and facilities information provided.
