Corn Hole Tournament!

Have you ever played corn hole? It doesn’t matter because I guarantee once you have, you will want a set for yourself. And that is exactly what the Environmental Health Section is offering you – a chance to win your own corn hole board set! We are giving away 2 sets in fact! We will be hosting our corn hole tournament/fundraiser beginning at 5:00 pm on Wednesday September 27th at Yesterday's Spaces, location of the Snowden BBQ. The tournament will be double elimination which will allow you to play at least two games. The cost per team is $30 ($15 per person for a 2-person team). No matter what your skill level, we promise you will enjoy yourself while helping to support the Environmental Health Section of NCPHA. Our goal is to have 24-32 teams. Please register today!

We can’t confirm the hilly part at this time but the hike will take place in Asheville and it will be healthy! – followed by a BBQ dinner that can be healthy depending on your food choices. The proceeds from the hike benefit the NCPHA Scholarship Endowment which has distributed more than $10,000 in the last ten years. These scholarships benefit graduate students, undergraduate students, associate students, children of members and recipients of the Robert Parker Leadership Scholarship. Pre-registration has closed, but walk-ons will be taken at the conference - $15/person.  The hike takes place on Wednesday, September 27 from 5:30 - 6:30 pm at Yesterdays Spaces, location of the Snowden BBQ.  The hike is sponsored by Chubb. 

Below is information on two additional workshops being offered on Tuesday, September 26. Separate registration is required. You do NOT have to be registered for the FEC to attend these workshops.

Audience:  New AACs or Backup AACs.  This is NOT for experienced AACs. 

Registration fee:  $60 includes light breakfast, lunch and snacks.

2017 HIPAA Workshop:  Critical Updates for Local Public Health Agencies

This pre-conference workshop is for HIPAA officers and others with administrative or supervisory responsibility for HIPAA within a local public health agency (LPHA) or county administration in North Carolina. Priority in registration will be given to LPHAs and county officials with HIPAA responsibilities until September 8. If space is still available after that date, we welcome HIPAA officers from other safety net providers. The workshop will provide critical updates for LPHAs on topics including:

  • HIPAA and Your Agency: Who and What is Covered?
  • The Individual Right of Access to Protected Health Information
  • Special Challenges with the PHI of Minor Children
  • Late-Breaking Updates

 A final agenda will be available by mid-summer. This pre-conference is made possible by a collaboration between the NC Public Health HIPAA Alliance, the UNC School of Government, and NCPHA.

Cost:  $50/person.  Includes lunch.

The FEC Planning Committee is excited to offer a Poverty Simulation Workshop this year at the conference.  Entitled Pinched, the workshop 

 is a guided experience that exposes participants to some of the challenges faced by those living in poverty. During the simulation, participants will play the role of an individual whose family lives in poverty. “Families” must work together to take care of life’s daily responsibilities, provide basic necessities like food, shelter and care. The simulation is followed by a guided discussion where participants have a chance to reflect on their experience.  To read more about it, go to this informational flyerThe workshop is free of charge but does require pre-registration. (offered as a selection on the FEC registration form).
