The Endowment Funds of the NCPHA

The following funds have been established to provide a source of ongoing support for the NCPHA and certain special initiatives:

NCPHA Foundation for a Healthy Future:  This fund supports the North Carolina Public Health Association.

NC Public Health Association Scholarship:  This fund awards scholarships through the NC Public Health Association to current or prospective workers in public health in North Carolina for public health training

The Wood EndowmentThis endowment was created by NCPHA in 1994.  The purpose of the Endowment is to establish a permanent funding source for lectures and conferences of NCPHA.  The Endowment is currently very financially healthy so contributions are not being taken at this time.  For more history of the Endowment click here

Gifts may be made in many forms, and gifts of all sizes are most welcome!  Gifts made in memory or to honor a particular individual are also encouraged.

The NCPHA Endowment Funds are invested and administered through the North Carolina Community Foundation.

How can you support the Endowment Funds of the NCPHA?

You can assure the continuation of our mission in many ways:  your gift or pledge to the fund, your gifts in memory or in honor of friends and family, or your thoughtfully planned bequest –these are just a few of the ways you can help build a strong endowment for the future. All gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Cash Gift

The simplest and most convenient way of participating in the fund is through cash gifts, which may take the form of pledges over a period of years.  All such gifts qualify for maximum income tax deductions.

To make a one-time cash or credit card gift to one of the above endowment funds click here.  This link will take you to the NC Community Foundation website.

Please make sure you indicate either "NC Public Health Association Scholarship" or "NCPHA Foundation for a Healthy Future" in the second box on the form so your gift will be designated to the correct fund.

If you are making a gift in honor or memory of an individual, you will have the opportunity to indicate that on the form also.

NCPHA Legacy Society

The NCPHA Legacy Society recognizes individuals who have made a provision in their estate for NCPHA to support the ongoing benefit and future of public health in North Carolina.  Below are ways you can designate NCPHA in your will.   Please click here for the Legacy Gift form.

Appreciated Securities or Real EstateBob Parker and Michael Clements, Legacy Society Co-Chairs

Gifts of appreciated securities and real property may provide important tax advantages to donors who have held assets for a long period of time.  The full fair market value of such gifts may be deductible as a charitable contribution. In the case of restricted or closely held stock, real estate or other unusual assets, the proposed gift may require an appraisal, a review by the North Carolina Community Foundation counsel, and approval of the NCCF Board of Directors.

Testamentary

There are many ways to remember the NCPHA Endowment Funds in a will.  After providing for relatives and friends, a donor can specify that some or all of the remaining assets be given to the NCPHA Endowment Funds, thereby achieving a lasting purpose and reducing the taxable portion of an estate.

Life Insurance

The NCPHA Endowment Funds may be named as the owner and beneficiary of a previously existing or new life insurance policy.  The donor receives an immediate tax deduction, which is usually approximately equal to the policy’s cash surrender value.  All premium payments made by the donor thereafter are also deductible.

The Charitable Remainder Trust

A donor may wish to make a contribution to charity but need all of his or her income for current expenses.  The donor can leave property to the NCPHA Endowment Funds at death or give the assets now, subject to a retained income interest.
